The family farmers of the Rocky Ford Growers Association have been busy over the last couple of months planting and nurturing their world-famous melons. Those amazingly sweet and juicy Rocky Ford Cantaloupes will start rolling into grocery stores across Colorado this weekend. The ripest cantaloupes are picked daily through the growing season and will go from the field to the grocery store in about 12 hours.

A box of fresh-from-the-farm Rocky Ford Cantaloupes will be presented to Colorado Gov. Jared Polis just in time for lunch on Wednesday, August 7 -- the day the governor is proclaiming Rocky Ford Cantaloupe Day. The last time Colorado had a Rocky Ford Cantaloupe Day was in August 2012.

The Rocky Ford Cantaloupe, Honeydew, and Watermelon season is almost in the books-- and it was a big one! Rocky Ford Cantaloupe and Honeydew melons sold out again, while Rocky Ford Watermelon will be available for just another week or so. The season isn't quite done: look for Rocky Ford pumpkins for your Halloween jack 'o lanterns and Thanksgiving pumpkin pies!

You have every right to be jealous of the Governor’s office for getting the first box of the 2017 Rocky Ford Cantaloupe™ season delivered to their doorstep this morning. Rocky Ford Growers Association family farm owner Eric Hanagan of Hanagan Farms will present the cantaloupe to Colorado Lt. Governor Donna Lynne at 9:30am, kicking off the long-awaited harvest.
